When you believe you are destined for greatness it is very likely that you will be labeled mentally ill. A person who is mentally ill is different and needs to be marked as such to let them know that they are not operating according to society’s expectations. Of course you are different from others. You have to be different to make a splash in this world. Every great leader, thinker or doer was different and you are following their path.
When you embrace your Mental
Illness Brilliance, you are activating your superpower and you can go on to accept yourself and be the change the world needs.
Here are the 5 Mental Illnesses that every Great Leader Needs.
Clinical description: A chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
Why you need ADHD: Great thinkers, leaders and doers have sharp minds that need to pivot fast to create the necessary correlations between inspirations from their environment and the action they need to take to inspire positive change in their environment. You need ADHD because a quick mind coupled with quick actions will change lives and saves lives.
Clinical description: Excessive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions).
Why you need OCD: Every great thinker, leader and doer was obsessed with their goal which led to repeated focusing on the goal and nothing else for years on end, allowing them to perfect the process behind achieving their goal. A focused mind can follow directions to achieve goals while an obsessed mind will create a new path to achieve the goal. You need OCD to complete the dream that so many others give up on.
Clinical description: Typically called “psychosis”— in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined. The main feature of this disorder is the presence of delusions, which are unshakable beliefs in something untrue.
Why you need delusions: No great mind in history ever stumbled upon their greatness. Their greatness, their influence, their impact on our society was a result of concentrated obsession with the role they wanted to play in life. Before they were Olympic athletes you could find them practicing their waves to the crowd. Before they were super star singers, they dressed the part and lived in their fantasy world. Before they were scientists, they told their friends that they would change the world one day. They lived their dream long before they ever stepped into it. They were delusional. You need delusional disorder to push your dreams into existence.
Clinical description: A disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs.
Why you need bipolar disorder: This world is unpredictable and volatile. A natural human reaction to the shenanigans of society would be a fluctuation of our emotions. The great leaders, thinkers and doers also have an added burden of being more in tune with their gifts and willing to use them. This causes them to swing between the emotional high of engaging their gifts and the depressive lows of coming back to the reality of this world to engage with people who have chosen to become sheep, ignore their brilliance and ostracize those who choose not to do so.
Those with bipolar disorder will return to their gifts, obsessions and creative expression of their mental brilliance and will cyclically be swept away once again by the depression that accompanies engaging with someone new and being confronted by their reality. You need bipolar disorder because of its promise that unlike chronic depression, you will return to your elevated high of creation and brilliance again.
Clinical description: A mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities.
Why you need anxiety disorder: You are mentally brilliant in a world that consistently tries to convince you that it is wrong to be this way. Every encounter with this society attempts to transform you into a clone of what they need you to be to further their goals. For some this transformation is simple, for you, not so much. This is why you feel anxiety all day when there is nothing to be afraid of. Your anxiety is your soul screaming to be who you really are. Your society is demanding that you conform. Your soul is at odds with your environment and your mind and body are being punished for it. You need anxiety disorder to remind you that you will only be allowed peace of mind when you do the work to change your environment.
